Three Reasons To Pole Mount Your Transformer During Installation

If your company has a need for more power on your property, you may be looking at installing a new transformer or two. But before you get started, take a look at the installation area and consider the benefits of going with a pole-mounted transformer as opposed to one installed on the ground.

Easier to Expand

Ground-based transformers tend to have a limited area of service. After the initial installation, it can be hard to install new wires to a ground-based transformer without one of the wires causing a safety hazard or getting in the way. When your transformer is elevated from the start, it will be much easier to expand your power across a larger area of your property because you can run power lines in any direction without anything getting in the way.

Save Your Space on the Ground

When you install a transformer on the ground, you will need to clear the surrounding area to make sure that no one goes near it. But you won't have this problem when your new transformer is elevated on a pole. When installed correctly, a pole-mounted transformer is safe enough that you can feel free to use the space directly under the pole with no issues. You can use this space for additional storage or just allow your employees more space to move around on your property as they go about their jobs.

It's the Safe Option

We've already mentioned that when your transformer is on the ground you will need to clear the surrounding area for safety reasons. But just because the area is clear does not mean everyone will be guaranteed to stay away. If an employee makes a mistake or someone new to your property accidentally wanders onto the wrong side of your fencing, you could end up with a terrible accident on your hands.

When the transformer is elevated up on a pole, it's much more difficult if not impossible for someone to accidentally bump into it.

If your company needs more power and will be installing one or more new transformers on your campus, make sure you go with pole-mounted transformers as opposed to ones that are installed on the ground. Pole-mounted transformers are safer, free up space on the ground and provide easier expansion as your business continues to grow.
